"Cuisine through the eyes of a storyteller,” occurring May 30, is the third in a series of Farm-to-Fork Chef Dinners, which pair a top chef with local farms in an unusual or rural setting. Presented by the St. Johns Cultural Council, each dinner is an intimate fine-dining experience with a unique theme. The dinners also feature local artists and musicians.

Enjoy an intimate four-course dinner with wine and beer pairings at The Amp, featuring Chef Genie McNally of The Floridian. The event will be a culinary tour of the Sunshine State, celebrating the unique culture and cuisine of Florida through the eyes of our best storytellers and authors — from southern comfort dishes inspired by Zora Neal Hurston to cross-cultural Caribbean and Hispanic dishes inspired by Stetson Kennedy folklore.

The menu:

Chilled Gazpacho:BWF heirloom tomato, peach, melon, and cucumber. “New southern” focused on seasonality, sourcing and the melange of cultures in Florida with respect to our unique foodways and traditions.

Shrimp Pilau Arancini: Taking inspiration from Northeast/Central Florida author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, (“The Yearling”) with the Low Country culture and our Minorcan and African roots, this course explores the culinary influence of our founding years.

Pork & Greens with Black Eyed Pea Succotash: With this course inspired by famed Central Florida author Zora Neal Hurston (“Their Eyes Are Watching God”), we take a deeper look at our cross-cultural influences and the true meaning of Southern comfort food.

Grits and Grunts Sofrito: Cuban sofrito Fresh Catch and purple rice grits with ginger carrot consommé and Microgreen primavera salad. Inspired by Stetson Kennedy’s stories, enjoy this exploration of South Florida’s unique cuisine showcasing our coastal Caribbean and Hispanic influences.

Citrus Infused Rum Cake: Our final course embraces storyteller Jimmy Buffet (“Margaritaville”) and the laid-back, fun-loving lifestyle that has come to embody Florida living and the beach culture we love.

Seating is limited. Note: Menu subject to change depending on local availability.

Food is a major part of understanding any culture or region. On Florida’s Historic Coast, the culinary scene reflects 450 years of its coastal location and diverse heritage. From the original Spanish settlers, British colonists and the Greeks and Minorcans who emigrated here, visitors to St. Johns County can savor a fascinating array of local culinary tastes and farm-to-table dishes. The Farm-to-Fork Chef Series Dinners highlight this heritage and the relationship between the county’s local farms and chefs. The Chef Series is presented by St. Johns Cultural Council.
